Philippines Earns Bronze and Grand Prize in STEM Entrepreneurship at WRO Asia and Pacific Open Championship 2026
The Philippines proudly showcased its growing strength in robotics, innovation, and STEM entrepreneurship at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Asia Pacific Open Championship 2026, held from September 25–29, 2026, at the GMR Arena in Aerocity, Hyderabad, India.
Competing against young innovators from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, Philippine robotics teams demonstrated not only technical excellence in coding, engineering, and problem-solving, but also creativity, collaboration, and a strong appreciation for culture and community.
A major achievement came from the Philippine Robotics National Team represented by Quezon City Science High School, DepEd Quezon City, which won BRONZE – 3rd Place in the Future Innovators Junior High School Category for their project KAPATID VIBE Theatre VR.
Under the theme “Robots Meet Culture,” the Future Innovators category challenged students to develop innovative robotic solutions while connecting technology with cultural understanding. The competition provided a platform for young students to demonstrate how robotics can become a powerful tool for creativity, problem-solving, and cultural exchange.
The Quezon City Science High School team’s Bronze achievement reflects the dedication of its students, mentors, school community, and the Philippine robotics ecosystem in developing young Filipinos who can compete and collaborate on the global robotics stage.
Another historic achievement for the Philippines came from DepEd Olongapo City Regional Science High School III, which won the GRAND PRIZE – WRO STEM Entrepreneur Award.
The award recognizes the team’s ability to move beyond the traditional boundaries of a robotics competition and demonstrate the entrepreneurial potential of STEM innovation.
As part of the award, the winning team received a US$5,000 startup fund, providing young innovators with an opportunity to further develop their concept and transform an idea generated through the competition into a potential real-world venture.
The WRO STEM Entrepreneur Program was launched by the World Robot Olympiad Association in September 2026 as a new startup-style initiative. Powered by strategic partner Aramco, the program introduces an accelerator-style pitch platform where students can present ideas emerging from their WRO experience and explore how technology-based solutions can address real-world needs. Their project Clinical Automated Recorder and Evaluation Device (CARED )is an Eco-friendly device set-up ,Automation in data collection of patient well-being for efficient treatment, Sustainable, efficient, low-cost, and an alternative device for expensive separated medical devices Improving both patient and health worker well-being and experience in hospitals Scalable solution for both public and private medical institutions. With its own application to lessen bugs and for easier application debugging.
The program represents an important evolution in STEM education—encouraging students not only to build robots, but also to think as innovators, entrepreneurs, and future technology leaders.
The WRO Asia Pacific Open Championship 2026 was jointly organized by the India STEM Foundation (ISF) and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The international event brought together young innovators in an environment where technology and culture could intersect. Through the “Robots Meet Culture” theme, students were encouraged to see robotics not simply as a technical discipline, but as a platform for understanding communities, expressing ideas, and creating solutions relevant to people and society.
For the Philippine Robotics National team ,the competition became an opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of Filipino talent—from engineering and programming to creativity, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and cultural representation.
The Bronze finish of Quezon City Science High School and the WRO STEM Entrepreneur Grand Prize of DepEd Olongapo City Regional Science High School III are significant milestones for Philippine STEM education.
Together, these achievements demonstrate two complementary dimensions of the country’s robotics journey: excellence in technical innovation and the ability to turn innovation into entrepreneurial opportunity. The achievements of the Philippine Robotics National teams also reinforce an important message for the next generation: STEM is not only about what students can build—it is about what they can imagine, solve, share, and ultimately create for society.
The Philippine Robotics National Team success at WRO Asia Pacific Open Championship 2026 is therefore more than a collection of awards. It is a celebration of Filipino ingenuity and a testament to the potential of young people when given the opportunity to innovate, compete globally, connect across cultures, and turn their ideas into solutions for the future.
FELTA Breeds STEM Champions! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! To God be the glory!
